Word Wednesday

But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him. God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.
James 4:23-24 (KJV)

It's who you are and the way you live that count before God. Your worship must engage your spirit in the pursuit of truth. That's the kind of people the Father is out looking for: those who are simply and honestly themselves before him in their worship. God is sheer being itself—Spirit. Those who worship him must do it out of their very being, their spirits, their true selves, in adoration.
James 4:23-24 (Message)

Scared Straight

Have you ever been nervous to take the next step? Maybe you didn't know what you would be really walking into; or you really just didn't see anything at all. Yet you knew God told you to go.

Wait... Maybe your afraid to be great. Knowing God has anointed & chosen you but.... your just not to comfortable in the you he created you to be.

Scared... Scared to go right. Scared to go left. Definitely scared to go back but scared to move forward. Knowing its time for a change. Yet scared to make that change. You hear God saying its your season but you're scared to accept it. Knowing God doesn't lie but scared to 100% believe. Scared of failing. Scared of making the wrong move. Scared of being you but scared of being fake. Scared of tapping into your gifts because somebody just may recognize you. Yet scared of not being able to use your gifts because it's your passion/dream. Scared of being alone and scared of being in the wrong company. Scared of being told no. Scared of people not liking you. Just SCARED STRAIGHT!

Your calling is bigger than you! If God promised it, it shall come to pass. New opportunities, new levels, new relationships, new dimensions, etc. If God is leading no need to be scared. Long as God says yes then the no's just mean not the right time, place or person. Keep moving! While you may be nervous; don't let that cause you to miss the next train leaving. Embrace you! God chose you for a reason! He equipped you! In order to obtain your goals & get to where God has destined you to go; you must move! So move with confidence (not arrogance)! Be secure! Have faith & lose that fear. Oh how you will look back smiling glad you stepped out of fear & into faith. Don't be afraid of where God is taking you. Be glad He is taking you. U got this & God got you! Obey Him and move as He speaks.

Who scared?1? You Scared?!? Didn't think so :)

For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind. 2 Timothy 1:7

Word Wednesday

Then said Jesus unto his disciples, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me.
Matthew 16:24 (KJV)

Then Jesus went to work on his disciples. "Anyone who intends to come with me has to let me lead. You're not in the driver's seat; I am. Don't run from suffering; embrace it. Follow me and I'll show you how. Self-help is no help at all. Self-sacrifice is the way, my way, to finding yourself, your true self. What kind of deal is it to get everything you want but lose yourself? What could you ever trade your soul for?
Matthew 16:24 (Message)

Jesus said unto him, Let the dead bury their dead: but go thou and preach the kingdom of God. And another also said, Lord, I will follow thee; but let me first go bid them farewell, which are at home at my house. And Jesus said unto him, No man, having put his hand to the plough, and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God.
Luke 9:60-62 (KJV)

Jesus refused. "First things first. Your business is life, not death. And life is urgent: Announce God's kingdom!" Then another said, "I'm ready to follow you, Master, but first excuse me while I get things straightened out at home." Jesus said, "No procrastination. No backward looks. You can't put God's kingdom off till tomorrow. Seize the day."
Luke 9:60-62 (Message)

I Give Myself Away

Giving yourself away... what does it mean? Let's think about this. We give ourselves to our jobs. Most are on the clock eight hours a day at minimum and putting in over time when needed. Some of us even ask for overtime hours. We tell the boss use me as you please. I'm here! Then there are those whom give yourself away to love. Getting in relationship giving your all. Making sure quality time is set aside and date night is taking care of. Giving yourself away to family. Spending times with the kids, household duties, checking on family members, etc. Giving yourself away to your hobbies and what ever else you may have going on. While this isn't bad, we must too avail ourselves to God. Giving Him our all as we do with other things in our life. We must make time for God no matter how busy our lives may become.

William McDowell's, I give Myself Away (song of the week pick) lyrics are pure, sweet, simple & amazing! It says, "I give myself away so you can use me." To be used by God is a great, humbling place to be. What I'm constantly learning is when we avail ourselves to God He expands us. Meaning, He takes our gifts, talents, dreams and exceeds where our mind could even take us. Not only that but our relationship with God is building as well. Operating in God's Will will lead you in the right direction. Realize your life isn't your own. It was given to us by God. Giving yourself to Him means taking on His will for your life. Trusting His will for our life is better than our own. Believing that dropping your will for His will only lead you to a better place. I promise you giving your life to Him is the best decision.

You may say you got it going on now and your living your dream. Yet living without God's hands on your life is just not living at all. Give your life completely to Him and watch how your life changes. Not saying you won't have difficult times because you will. Yet, see that you feel better. Even when those tough times come you know you will make it. Being in the presence of God is an indescribable feeling. Let God manifest His will in your life. The way you make yourself available to the things in this world give that much more to God. Set aside that daily quality time to talk with God, read His word & for Him to speak back to you. Give yourself away to God so He can use you as He desires.

He must increase, but I must decrease. John 3:30

Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

Today we celebrate the life & legacy of the great Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Here are some of his great words of wisdom.
  1. Faith is taking the first step even when you don't see the whole staircase.
  2. Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.
  3. I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character.
  4. I have decided to stick with love. Hate is too great a burden to bear.
  5. In the End, we will remember not the words of our enemies, but the silence of our friends.
  6. Life's most persistent and urgent question is, 'What are you doing for others?'
  7. Love is the only force capable of transforming an enemy into friend.
  8. Nothing in all the world is more dangerous than sincere ignorance and conscientious stupidity.
  9. The function of education is to teach one to think intensively and to think critically. Intelligence plus character - that is the goal of true education.
  10. The time is always right to do what is right.
  11. The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort and convenience, but where he stands at times of challenge and controversy.
  12. To be a Christian without prayer is no more possible than to be alive without breathing.
  13. Change does not roll in on the wheels of inevitability, but comes through continuous struggle. And so we must straighten our backs and work for our freedom. A man can't ride you unless your back is bent.
  14. We must develop and maintain the capacity to forgive. He who is devoid of the power to forgive is devoid of the power to love. There is some good in the worst of us and some evil in the best of us. When we discover this, we are less prone to hate our enemies.

Believe Part 2

All week in Atlanta, we've been dealing with "treacherous" winter weather conditions. Sunday night it snowed followed by freezing rain & daily/nightly freezing temperatures. This may not sound bad to you but in the South its horrendous. Many have been off work & out of school all week. Until yesterday, we were encouraged to stay off the roads & stay home. I'm a Michigan girl so I was quite surprised yet not complaining as these results, lol. When the storm hit, many did not know how long they would be stuck at home. However, we knew we wouldn't be stuck forever. We knew our daily schedules would resume. From our homes, we couldn't see crews working, but we know they are out hard at work. We even slept with no worries. Knowing they were working to get the city back to passable conditions. Although no date or day is known; Soon drivers will be back driving 80, 90 & above on 285, 20, 75, 85 & 400.

I said all that to say... You may not know the date or day BUT your day is coming. As we trust people and things we must too trust God. If we know God is able to do it why do we stress and worry as if He can't? Stress & worry create headaches, gray hairs & no sleep. It does absolutely nothing for the situation. When is the last time you saw stress pay a bill? Where you are now you won't be forever! Yes, you may be at what seems like a stand still or even moving slower than you like. However, know if you're moving at God's pace and are where He wants you to be; you're right on track!

The devil is always looking for a way to sneak in & take over. You see he goes for your mind. His goal is to make you doubt God. Don't give him the satisfaction to even think you're going to doubt. If he can get you to doubt he knows your choices & actions will soon reflect that. You get angry at God, stop going to church, stop praying and down right start dogging Him out. You will begin to make decisions out of desperation. Taking matters into your own hands instead of waiting for God to to do His perfect work. That doesn't mean if your jobless never put in an application.Yet, put those applications in & watch God work miracles & show His favor. Even if it's five months later... Still Believe!

I could have been upset this week at authorities for taking all week to clear the roads. However, I still would have been sitting at home. Only difference I would have been home and mad vs. home and enjoying the time. At the end of the day, I needed them to do their job if I had any hopes of driving. Let God finish the work He has started in your life. After all you do need Him to make it through this life! Becoming angry with God & not going to church will not change your situation. It only hurts you.

As we take this Christian journey there will be times we have to wait & go through the process. Believe there is a reason for the process. Learn while going through it. Smile because you know you're coming out of it. Don't allow the devil any room! Even when the roads in your life seem impassable don't doubt God. Some times you have to tell the devil, "devil not today." Find joy in sending him back to the very place he came from. Believe that although you may not see God working, He is! Things may not always go the way you want. Yet, with God they will always go the way they should. Believe through the hurt, sweat, pain & tears. Believe God even if you have to believe by yourself. Some people may think you're crazy but that's alright. Believe what God promised you will come to pass. I can say it a million ways & a million times but please just Believe. You will soon look back and be glad you did! Believe!!!

Believe

My song of this week is James Fortune's, "I Believe." This song captures the very essence of what we should never stop doing - BELIEVING! I know you may think, "chile you only 26, you haven't even experienced life yet." Oh wait, maybe you're saying, " You can't even imagine what I've been through." You're right & maybe I can't! However, although our experiences may be different it doesn't take away from the hurt/pain of life & the notion of wanting to give up. Life gets hard! Well, honestly life can get worse than hard. It can cause you to think/do crazy things. Not to mention you were already two seconds away from giving it all up before the last issue arose. You know how it happens, always one thing after another.

First you lose your job --> Then no unemployment --> oh wait, now the household bills are due --> five months & still no call backs for a job --> Savings account is $20 away from 0--> Family emergency and everyone is calling you --> Did the refrigerator just play out? --> Employed & the job is stressful --> Hate the job any way cause you're only working it for a check --> He/she committed adultery --> Death of a love one --> Child acting as if they had no home training --> Abused by boyfriend/girlfriend/spouse --> Pregnancy test is positive --> Financial aid office tripping --> Athlete & now injured --> Now the church folk working your nerves.........

I could keep going, going & going. However, there is one common denominator - JESUS! When life bricks fall and even begin to pile up, BELIEVE. Of course you think easier said then done. Yet, be reminded nothing is to hard for the Lord. Even when we make choices that put ourselves in silly situations... Jesus still looks out for us. How many times has He came to your rescue? I can't count them either :). He really wants you to live an abundant life. Here's the thing though. We must get past losing or wavering in our faith when things get hard. Let Jesus show you His Word is true. That He will do the very thing He said He would. BELIEVE you are strong enough & equipped to handle your situation. Even while you're going through BELIEVE Jesus is working on your behalf. Remember, you're going through. Meaning not stuck in that present situation forever. Just as the seasons change so will the seasons in your life. You may not see the end but BELIEVE your victory story is already written. BELIEVE the very thing you need Jesus to do... He's able! You may cry, get frustrated or whatever but in that; Smile, trust and BELIEVE, "It's already done."

...Weeping may endure for a night, but joy cometh in the morning. Psalm 30:5
Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. Proverbs 3:5

If you haven't heard the song or need to hear it again, I posted it on Monday

Word Wednesday

Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you: For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened. Matthew 7:7-8 (KJV)

Don't bargain with God. Be direct. Ask for what you need. This isn't a cat-and-mouse, hide-and-seek game we're in. If your child asks for bread, do you trick him with sawdust? If he asks for fish, do you scare him with a live snake on his plate? As bad as you are, you wouldn't think of such a thing. You're at least decent to your own children. So don't you think the God who conceived you in love will be even better? Matthew 7:7-11 (The Message)

Double Dose Daddy's Girl

Three years ago today my life changed forever. At the age of 57 my dad passed away after fighting cancer for six short months. Everything happened so quickly. I remember it all so vividly as if it just occurred. I was speaking life and believing God's word for his healing. Within those six months things got really hard for me. I was in Atlanta and he was in Michigan. We went from talking daily to not being able to talk at all (We talked daily every since I went off to college in '02). Although my mom kept me updated & relayed messages between us; this wasn't what I wanted to get use to.

Being the spoiled daddy's girl that I am; I couldn't dare imagine what life would be like without him. I mean he hadn't even walked me down the aisle yet! I remember joking with a friend saying, "If my dad passes I'm going to jump in the casket with him. I just wasn't ready! "The title "Daddy's Little Girl"  I wore well as I was truly his princess. I could count on him for any and everything. There was no fear! I was the girl who would think if you do ______ (anything), "I'm gone call my daddy" lol. I was secure in knowing he had my back no matter what. That he always wanted the best for me. Yet I also knew he didn't play. There were definitely rules in the "McKinnie" household. His love for me was undeniable. For me, there was no love like a fathers love and no connection like father/daughter.

On January 10, 2008 I cried out to God fa real fa real. Crying, snotting and all saying, "God I really don't want you to take my dad but if that's your will then I'm going to have to be ok with it because I know you don't make mistakes... just keep me." I was convinced at this point the testimony was going to be my dad being healed or God healing me. That night/morning my dad passed. To this day I believe amongst other things that God was waiting to hear that prayer from me before his passing.

I wondered was my faith not strong enough, did I not pray enough and even asked why my dad?  That's the most tragic thing I've ever experienced. It was as if my heart was torn out! I had lost so much by losing one person. Words & sentences could never express that feeling. However, I write today as a living testimony that God heals, comforts & wipes teary eyes. Yes, I still cry and get sad. Matter of fact I shed many tears yesterday. Crying and snotting all over again, lol. Yet, I'm still standing!

Like my earthly father God takes good care of me. You may think the comparison is strange because my dad was here physically. However... God listens, talks to me, laughs with me and without a doubt has my back. I know when I call on Him, He's there. I'm secure in knowing, He cares so much for me & always wants the best for me. He too disciplines me and tells me no when needed. His love for me is far pass what I could ever imagine. He tell me He loves me and that I'm special to Him. He walks ahead of me preparing the way; Behind me protecting me from things I don't see coming; and beside me so I may lean on Him as He holds my hand. Although nobody can ever replace my dad, He has placed magnificent people in my life who genuinely love & care for me as he did (what a wonderful feeling). Oh & yes He spoils me... Favor!

I sit and think at times what more can a girl ask for. I've experienced God for myself and understand what it means to be His child. This is why I say I'm a Double Dose Daddy's Girl. My earthly & heavenly father are THEE BEST! Although things don't always go my way and I don't always understand God's response, I'm truly overwhelmed by His love. I'll tell you this, without God, there is no telling where this situation would have lead me. Yet, I'm still here! Great thing about God is He can be your father too! He wants a real relationship with you. It's your choice. He wants to be there for you as He is for me. I'm just His baby girl, lol :o) ... Try Him!

Blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be comforted. Matthew 5:4
He healeth the broken in heart, and bindeth up their wounds. Psalm 147:3
...for when I am weak, then am I strong. 2 Corinthians 12:10

Don't Hate Me Cause I'm Beautiful

Who created the beauty checklist for one to see if they made cut? Better yet, can I see it?!?

Short... Tall... Skinny... Thick... No meat on bones... Too much meat on bones... White... Black... Spanish... Latino... Indian... African... Chinese... Long hair... Short hair... No hair.... Big breast... No breast... Pigeon-toed... Hairy... Flat backside... To much backside... Big nose... Big lips.. etc

No matter your body type, ethnicity, or any other physical attribute you want to blurt out; know that it's all beautiful. Many times its easy to set your standards based off what is seen on television, magazines and in the media. You see those women getting men, working in mainstream media or simply seeming having life all figured out. However, don't let others perceptions cause you to have low self esteem. Embrace the woman God created in you. Of course we must maintain self maintenance, but... God made you like nobody else! You're one of a kind. No duplicates allowed!

Beauty isn't only a physical thing. Beauty comes from the inside. I know you have met "beautiful" people by looks alone but when they open their mouth... You guessed it... they just turn ugly. Beauty is more than what meets the eye. Always let your light shine. Spreading love, joy & peace. Exuding those characteristics that make people smile, laugh & enjoy your presence.

Have confidence (not cocky or arrogant)! Know that if you wake up in the morning and decide not to put any makeup on you're still beautiful. Even when you go to bed at night with that scarf on your head you're still beautiful. If you decide to put on a hoody & jogging pants people still want you present because your beauty runs far deeper than your outside appearance. Beauty on the inside and out is a great combination. If you're struggling with knowing you are beautiful and have low self-esteem understand that's not of God. Look at yourself in the mirror and say out loud, "I'm beautiful!" Say it as many times and days as you need to until you believe it. I did :)! Now smile while looking in that mirror and say/sing, "Don't Hate Me Cause I'm Beautiful!"

Oh yes, you shaped me first inside, then out; you formed me in my mother's womb. I thank you, High God—you're breathtaking! Body and soul, I am marvelously made! I worship in adoration—what a creation! You know me inside and out, you know every bone in my body; You know exactly how I was made, bit by bit,  how I was sculpted from nothing into something. Psalm 139: 13-14 (The Message)

Second Chance

Every one has their own story. Many times we see the finish product after God has delivered and brought them out. Then there are times when we get the chance to watch God do miracles right before our very eyes. I'm sure many of you have heard and seen the tv interview of Ted Williams. From a radio announcer to a homeless man staying on the streets in Ohio. Alcohol & drugs caused things to take a turn in his life. With a undeniable unique speaking voice Mr.Williams lost many things yet his voice remained. After years of being homeless things have suddenly changed. One person recognized his talent & now jobs are pouring in by the numbers.

There are many things we can learn from Mr. Williams. No matter how bad your situation may be God is still able. Everyone else may count you out but one yes from God is all you need. No matter how bad your situation may be never stop praying. Age doesn't disqualify you with God. Lastly, when seeing homeless people don't prejudge. Although we may not be out on the streets, like us, they too have a story. Recognize where your gifts and talents come from, and give Him thanks. Jesus is the source behind our existence. Yall God is able! He is a God of second chances. Give God praise because He is truly worthy. Be inspired by his story below.

Though your beginning was small, Yet your latter end would increase abundantly. Job 8:7

Chains

Good MornTing!

Ok, so I had this dream last night I was getting locked up for lying. Before even making it to population I saw someone who knew me and he immediately went to speak to the judge who granted my release. This was one of those dreams that seemed so real. You know the kind where you wake up looking around, almost in real tears hoping it was indeed a dream, lol. Any who, when I realized it was a dream I was reminded... No matter how chained you seem in a situation God is still able, He has the final say & Favor with God is alright!

Now to some this scenario may seem a bit extreme. However, some of the situations that we are currently facing are extreme to us. Unemployed, no unemployment, home in foreclosure, tuition needing to be paid, no means of transportation, family/kids in shambles, no peace, bills, bills & more bills. You know how it is just one thing after another. Reality is many of our choices and mismanaging has allowed us to experience this dark place.

Yet just like my dream God is still able. Don't allow your situation to have you chained/bound. Be Free in knowing the power of the God you serve. Be Free in the ability you have to go to Him in prayer. Be Free to worship & praise God despite all the craziness going on in your life. Be Free to cry out to Him & seek His face. Be Free to trust God. Be Free to call on Him any day of the week at any hour of the day. Be Free to be freed from yourself. Be free in claiming/representing the God you serve. Don't be chained/bound by this world. Be Free in Jesus!

Social Networking

I can't speak for nobody else like I can speak for myself... I'm a daily user of Facebook & Twitter. Ok, well let me be honest. I'm a daily ALL day user of both. I love seeing what my friends are up to while posting different things as well. I laugh, reads tons of inspirational quotes & then of course I shake my head (smh) at reading/seeing some things.

Many feel that you have to have a big platform with millions of followers to be heard or to make a difference. Yet with today's social media outlets we all have the power to plant seeds and encourage those who are our friends on facebook and whom follow us on Twitter. I'm not saying that we must speak in tongues on our pages or just be to deep (cause some folks are just that). Yet, I'm saying express positivity. So many times you see folks cussing others out subliminally, pictures with all this money while high as a kite & just flat out negative.

You... Yes little ol' you... Can be a seed planter... Bringing a smile to someones face... Letting them know its going to be alright.... or even making them laugh. We all know death & life are in the power of the tongue. I indeed believe that goes for what you type/write. Think about what you post before you post it. Is it positive or negative? Am I speaking life or death? Am I spreading God's love or not? Will people see the God in me or not?

Live wisely among those who are not believers, and make the most of every opportunity. 6 Let your conversation be gracious and attractive[a] so that you will have the right response for everyone. Colossians 4:5-6

Song of the Week

Thought this song was the perfect fit as we begin 2011.
Jonathan Nelson - Expect The Great

Welcome 2 Sweet Spirit

As a 26 year old young adult whom is striving to become a better Christian daily; I felt compelled to start a blog that would encourage, inspire, uplift & be real with all my readers. If we all are real we can admit that at any given time life tries to take us out. At any given moment we may need to be reminded that God is real… He loves you… You can make it… and you were created with a purpose. It’s no secret that in life we will all face trials, tribulations & temptations. Yet we must be reminded that in order to receive all God has for us we must not give up. I know what you’re thinking; “Easier said than done!” Not even… You will begin to understand as the blog develops.

It’s my prayer that this blog will make you smile, laugh, think and help you continue moving forward in God while keeping the devil in his place (under your feet). We are real people, with real issues, serving a real God. Feel free to dialog with one another giving positive feedback as we are all in this Christian walk together. I will update periodically throughout each week. Changing the world one blog at a time :o)

Who else is… CRUNK FOR JESUS?!?!?!?
